The new Ducati booth is much more of an open concept design than the previous Ducati display booth. In the past, you had to squeeze in through an entrance that made the booth feel very exclusive, but also somewhat crowded. The new Ducati booth is totally open with access from all sides allowing traffic to flow into the booth from all directions. The show organizers were wise to place Ducati at the center of the show floor, because Ducati was, naturally, the center of attention.

The new Ducati Booth

Ted & Oz from NEDOC

Don, Paul (1098 owner), and Bob from N.H.

Tyler (1098 owner) down from N.H. sporting a GBMC t-shirt

On Friday evening the excitement at the show kicked off with the Redbull DJ spinning tunes to pump up the energy in the Javits Center. Soon the Ducati booth was literally surrounded by hundreds of people as Ducati kicked off one of their outstanding fashion shows. Placed in the center of the stage was the all new Multistrada and the fashion models strutted there way around the technological masterpiece. At the completion of the fashion show the models came out for a final bow, and the crowd was told that more excitement was in store for them.

Ducatis' New open concept Booth

Red-Bull DJ spinning Tunes

Fashion Models Flank the New Multistrada

Yes, I am the model in the photo on the wall behind me

Ducati Clothing Manager, George, smiles. The Fashion Shows are a real hit

If you looked around the IMS show at that moment you could see that nearly every attendee was focused on the Ducati booth, even the representatives and vendors from other brands were all standing on the outskirts of the Ducati booth hoping to catch some of the action. Ducati CEO Michael Lock climbed up onto the stage and with microphone in hand introduced Ducati Moto GP Team Racer, Nicky Hayden. The applause was loud and lasted for nearly a minute as Hayden, known as the Kentucky kid, waived to the crowd.

Ducati CEO Michael Lock introduces Nicky Hayden

Lock then sat down with Nicky and conducted an interview on the Ducati stage. Nicky Hayden was modest and genuine in his replies to Lock’s questions. Nicky has a fantastic winning record as a racer, yet he was very humble about his work on the Ducati Moto GP team which is the highest level of two wheeled racing on the planet. In the end what Hayden wants, heck all Ducatisi want, is many more podium finishes for Ducati on the Moto GP circuit.

Nicky answers the questions from Michael

Nicky & Michael share a moment

The booth stayed hopping as Nicky graciously signed all manner of cards, posters and people (yes, body parts) for his adoring fans. With Nicky in the booth at the Javits’ center you could really see that Ducati is the most exciting brand in motorcycling today. Heck, the Harley booth, directly across from Ducati was empty and it did not even seem like anyone was manning it.

Nicky Graciously signs autographs

As the show closed, Ducati was not done with New York City yet on Friday, and moved the party down to the night club and restaurant area know as the meat packing district. Trendy hot spots abound in the meat packing district some of which do not even have signs indicating they exist. This is one of the coolest areas to party in New York City, and Ducati hosted a VIP party in the nightclub on the roof top at the Hotel Gansevoort. The Hotel Gansevoort is on 9th Avenue in the center of the meatpacking district and is credited with helping to “turn the neighborhood from gritty to chic.”

Revelers at the Ducati VIP Party
The bar in the hotel lobby was a cool scene, with upscale urban dwellers dressed for a late night on the town. Just before 10 pm an announcement was made that anyone wearing a Ducati VIP lanyard was invited to take the elevator to the top floor for the Ducati party. Free Red Bull and Peroni Beer were served while the DJ spun tunes for the crowd. The view of the city from this roof top night club was fabulous. Soon up onto the stage came Nicky Hayden. He thanked Ducati, Ducati owners, and his fans for all of their support and told the admiring crowd how much he appreciated their enthusiasm.

Ducati Sales & Marketing Director - Jason Chinnock at the Hotel Gansevoort Night Club

The party went on with Nicky taking his time to speak with fans. A typical New York City Friday night is not your typical New England Friday night. Many places don’t even start to get hopping until after midnight, and many bars simply lock their doors at 4 am, but keep on pouring for those still inside. This was definitely one of those nights, but that is another story…..

On Saturday & Sunday the IMS show had outstanding attendance which is very positive for motorcycling in general. And it is particularly positive for Ducati , because both days saw the Ducati booth jammed with motorcyclists. If you were at the show you could feel the excitement in the Ducati booth, and it was unmatched throughout the rest of the show. Ducati had the new Multistrada, the new Streetfighter, the new 796 Hypermotard, and the gorgeous 1198 S Corse all on display, plus virtually every model in their line up.

The All new Multistrada

The New 1198S Corse - check out the tank! (I love my job) “OK Don, you talked me into it” Now I have to tell you, if you have never been to the San Diego area, you need to go. No bugs, no potholes, no frost heaves and some of the finest scenery in the country. So here I am, keys in hand to a brand new, all black and chrome 2010 Thunderbird. This thing had almost every piece of chrome available from Triumph bolted on to it. I’m such a sap for black and chrome. I have to tell you, when you hear that 1600 cc engine with the accessory mufflers come to life, it brings a broad smile to your face. I think to myself, Chris, they’re paying you to do this (an even bigger grin) so, here we go. 20 brand new Thunderbirds, rolling down the highway toward mount Palomar on some of the coolest roads I’ve ever ridden. The twist’s and turns on these roads are unbelievable. What’s even more unbelievable is the fact that I’m tearing up the road and carving through these corners on a cruiser. Not a sport bike like the Daytona 675 or the Street Triple R. I’m talking cruiser here. These things aren’t supposed to handle, are they? Well apparently the good folks at Triumph and Tim Prentice (the designer) thought differently. I got to spend some time with Tim and after a very short time you could see, this man is passionate about his designs. The project started in 2004 and the design work began in 2005. This was not a rushed project. A lot of time and effort went into this bike and when you get a chance to ride one, you’ll see why. Power delivery is excellent. It’s hard to believe that this is a parallel twin. The engine is as smooth as glass with enough torque to pull hard in any gear.

Black and chrome is so cool!

Want to run it up to red line. No problemo, winds right up to 6500 RPM without missing a beat. Rumors have it that a tire or two may have produced a puff of smoke here or there!

“OK” they said, it is time for you to switch bikes. So, I bid goodbye to black beauty and said hello to a silver and black Thunderbird with a couple of surprises. The headlight cowl and the short pipes gave a hint as to what this really was. A big bore! 1700cc’s, 104 cubic inches, 100 hp and 118 foot pound’s of torque! Now we’re talking.

Big bore! Oh boy!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m telling you, this thing sound’s awesome! The amazing thing is that the big bore is just as smooth as the standard engine. At idle you can hear the difference in the two engines but you cannot feel it. That is until you put it in gear and crack open the throttle. WOW! Here we go, you can feel the difference right away. Good thing this bike has some great brakes. Over the years I have had the opportunity to ride many different bikes. Some leave a lasting impression, some not so much. This is one that will leave a smile on your face for many years to come. In comparison to a recent test ride that I took on a friend’s Dyna glide, this new Thunderbird is clearly a superior machine. It out powers and out handles the Harley hands down! And, you can actually see what’s behind you through the mirrors at idle. Try doing that on a Dyna. Triumph has redefined what a cruiser should be. Tons of smooth power, impressive handling, great look’s and a bike that is comfortable to ride all day long. I’m looking forward to getting this years demo on the lot and can’t wait until our riding season is back. I wonder if the boss will let me add a big bore kit and pipes. Hmmmmmm. It can’t hurt to ask! Good luck trying to get the keys away from me!

Chris Hafner

Sales

The weather was just perfect!

Snow in southern California?????

MOTORCYCLIST RIDE FOR FREE AT GREAT BAY DUCATI

MOTORCYCLIST RIDE FOR FREE AT
GREAT BAY DUCATI

Ducati provides free test rides
at Fall Open House

North Hampton, NH September 18th & 19th
2009- Area motorcyclists will get the
full red carpet treatment when Ducati Motorcycles’ Demo Truck (the Duc Truck)
rolls into Great Bay Motorcycles on Friday, September 18th and Saturday,
September 19th.

More than 15 new 2009 motorcycles, at least one from each of
Ducati’s model lines, will be available for motorcyclists to ride in organized
demo rides. It also states that if you pull over and put a
rain suit on at the first sign of rain the rain will stop shortly after you are
ensconced in your rain suit. I have learned to pull over early, wiggle into my
rain suit and look for the skies to clear as I remount my bike. Just like we
wear crash protection to prepare for the remote possibility of a crash. In a way
the thinking is if you wear crash protection you will never need it.

So, having a quality rain suit with you when you travel a
field is a key component of preparedness. Generally, I don’t like to leave in
the rain. Meaning that if it is raining out, I prefer not to start a long ride
unless I am already someplace and home is the return destination. But, riding
and encountering rain will happen sometimes and being prepared with gear makes
it much more comfortable and actually, safer. If you commute any distance to
work having a rain suit is nearly mandatory. We don’t live in the tropics so a
rainstorm can make you pretty cold in your riding gear very quickly. As we get
cold we lose mental acuity and it becomes harder to concentrate. When this
happens we may not be not riding at the level we should be, and that is not
safe.

We recommend and sell rain suits from Triumph. Our
experience is that when comparing value to price point these suits can’t be
beat. I own a 2001 vintage Triumph Chevron Oversuit and it still works
fabulously. I have logged over 1000 miles in the rain in that suit this summer
and it still does not leak a bit. Considering it has been worn probably 50 times
over the years, I can truly testify to its quality. The Chevron is a one piece
suit that has an innovative and award winning design that allows the rider to
put it on without doing a dance on the side of the road as they try to get their
legs into the pants portion. All of this is done with two zippers that run from
your chest to your feet. After removing the Chevron Oversuit from its supplied
bumbag you put your arms through the sleeves and immediately your upper body is
out of the rain. Then using two zippers and some Velcro you seal yourself into
the suit, remount your bike and you are off. Total time to do this is about a
minute after you get accustomed to the procedure.

Some riders want a two-piece rain suit, and there are some
good reasons for this. If you have a quality all weather riding jacket, you will
stay dry, for a while, in the rain. In this case a set of rain pants can help
you keep your bottom half dry. It should be noted though, that rain, especially
hard driving rain, has an uncanny ability to eventually penetrate most all
weather riding garments. A rain suit is essentially a big plastic bag and since
it doesn’t breath it doesn’t let water in even at speed.

So if you want it not to rain for the next three months get
yourself a rain suit!

Thank you for being on our mailing list and have a great
rest of the summer from all of us at Great Bay!

The World of Triumph

THE WORLD OF TRIUMPH

Wow, Great Bay Motorcycles continues to be the number one
Triumph dealer in New England, further cementing our decade long leadership
position. Of course, I will be using
plenty of positive words, but please remember virtually every Triumph released
in the past 5 years has been a top ten bike, meaning it was noted as one of the
top ten bikes available for the year it was released. In the case of the Daytona
675 we can site three consecutive years being awarded the international master
bike nod for its displacement category. Triumph has simply released a string of
great handling and great performing motorcycles, so there is no doubt that the
Thunderbird has some serious standards to maintain.

Besides releasing another Cycleworld Magazine Top Ten
Winner, Triumph has proven it can design and build some of the best bikes in the
world. That’s right, the new Thunderbird already received the Cruiser of the
Year award. The bike is handsome, well integrated and performs accordingly.

Riding the new Thunderbird was a joy. It is the finest
riding cruiser I have ever been on, and I have ridden a mountain of them.
Shifting is smooth and power is plentiful. You can ride the bike and short shift
it like a V-Twin, the bike feels super torquey. If you roll hard on the throttle
you will feel a rumble beneath you as you are forced to the rear of the seat. As
you approach the 6500 red line the bike pulls with authoritative thrust and you
feel the motor pulsing beneath you. Roll off the throttle and the bike will
cruise along smoothly at as low as 1000 rpm. If you roll on the throttle again
in any gear the claimed 107 ft/lbs. of torque provide you with an overwhelming
sense of power. I won’t mention the ability to ………….on power in second gear, but
just know this bike has plenty of useable power.

This bike is definitely a cruiser and is very happy to ride
along in a super smooth and relaxed fashion. Handling is superb, with ample
cornering clearance and a confidence inspiring chassis. The ride is plush and
comfortable, yet the bike remains agile and on its line through bumpy turns.
This bike handles corners better than the leagues of H-D’s and Japanese cruisers
it was designed to compete with.

Midway through a sweeping corner I had the pleasure of a
driver on the phone in an old Chrysler K car convertible make a U turn directly
in front of me. The man’s eyes widened as he saw I was headed straight for his
door. A quick grab of the front brake lever put the four piston dual disc Nissan
calipers to work. When combined with a push on the pedal of the rear Brembo
equipped brake the Thunderbird came to a smooth, near panic stop, and I was able
to confidently roll past the rear bumper of the offending Chrysler pilot. So,
while I thought the Thunderbird’s brake set up was great under normal operation,
it proved to be outstanding when really needed. Triumph has given the new
Thunderbird sport bike quality brakes, and handling that will surprise operators
of any style of motorcycle.

In summary, the new 2010 Triumph Thunderbird never failed
to impress. It gained plenty of attention when parked downtown, and its blue and
white striped paint received many positive comments. The bike looks great
parked, but as it should be, it’s real character shined when ridden on the road.

We expect to have a Thunderbird demo model available soon,
or you can come on in and sit on the unit we have on display in the showroom. We
have been taking deposits on them and have already sent one happy customer on
his way down the road on a new Triumph Thunderbird. Feel free to call us or stop
in and check out the bike or just order your own Thunderbird.

Triumph Demo Rides continue @ Laconia Bike Week!

Join Triumph Factory Employees & some of us Great Bay MC types for even more Demo fun @ Laconia Bike Week!

Come on down to the Fun Spot Arcade in Laconia: www.funspotnh.com

If you didn't get a chance to make an appearance during our event, the Factory Truck will be up North from the 16th - 21st

Come by & see us!

DEMO RIDES @ GBMC --- A HUGE THANK YOU!!!

Thanks for making our Annual Triumph Demo Day event a smashing success! Ducati Revs New England!

Track Day Fun
Ducati Rev’s New England

Track Day Round Up

June 1st, 2009 – Loudon, NH.

We just rolled out from a fanatastic track day at New
Hampshire Motor Speedway. This years Ducati Rev’s New England was attended by
over 80 Ducatisi who enjoyed exhilarating fun on the track and camaraderie in
the pits. The event is hosted by Ducati and select Ducati dealers and run by the
great folks at Penguin Racing.

The morning was not warm and some of us actually felt cold
as we walked around the speedway on our track walk led by head Penguin
Instructor Eric Wood. The first part of the course has been changed because of
construction and now there is a chicane on the Nascar track, so walking the
track was basically essential if you wanted to understand the changes.

We went out for our sessions and most us liked the new
turns. The day alternates between classroom sessions and riding sessions and you
apply what you as the day goes along. We had an excited crew with us that was a
mix of staff members and customers. Two of our factory trained and certified
Ducati technicians Paul and Ryan, helped everyone get their bikes ready, and
provided everyone with a huge jolt of enthusiasm. We had a mix of Superbikes and
Hypermotards. Ryan riding his Hyper, did a great job of challenging the boys on
the 4 valvers, but their superior power showed itself on the tracks straights.

The time we spend together between sessions in the garages
is definitely a big part of the experience. The discussions range from the last
session, to who is faster, to the cool Streetfighter out on the track, to just
giving each other the usual hard time. One of our customers sent us the
following email, and this pretty much encapsulates what a first track day can do
for someone.

“I just
want to thank you again for inviting me to the track day on Mon. I had a great
time as well as my buddy Jason. We have some great pictures that I will probably send to you to post on the website if you want. It was truly an experience that every Ducati owner should have. I had no idea what the 848 could actually do. I would love to go again next year(maybe sooner). I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate you guys helping me out with my first track day. The bottled water, removing my mirrors, taping the bike, loading and unloading the bike.... all of this was a huge help to me. It really shows the passion that you guys have for this lifestyle. I'm starting to remember some of the guys names, but please thank them for all the help and encouragement throughout the day.”

It sure sounds like he had a great day doesn’t it? The sound of a Ducati track days is unlike anything else. The sound of a Desmosedici on the front straight is
intoxicating, and the sounds of multiple superbikes around the course is rhythmic music. For the past 22 plus years I have been working on Triumph and Ducati motorcycles. I have ridden them, raced them, and built them, and I am happy to say that I am still enthusiastic about these great machines.

At Great Bay Motorcycles we have the experience, training and special tools to make sure that your bike is ready for you every time you ride. Our mechanics are all Ducati Level II certified and fully Triumph factory trained which adds up to three A Level mechanics ready to work on your ride. I think it is important to note that all of us own and ride these great bikes and we apply our passion for these machines every time we work on one.

As we look forward to the spring, we have the opportunity to save you money and get your bike ready for the upcoming riding season. You can read more about this in our Service Specials section of this newsletter.

If you have not yet winterized you motorcycle or scooter, it is not too late to prevent problems from popping up in the spring. Now that we have seen the temperatures below 10 degrees please be sure to take these vital steps to prepare your bike or scooter for the rest of this cold winter, or call us and we can help you.

At minimum you should:
· Change your oil and install a new oil filter.
· Install a Battery Tender and plug it in.
· Add fuel stabilizer to your fuel tank and make sure you distribute it throughout the fuel system.
· Coat your machine with protectant.
· Check and adjust your tire pressure.
· Thoroughly inspect your machine for any loose hardware or defects.

Of course, we would be happy to do all of this for you, and we can arrange to pick up your motorcycle or scooter if you need us to. By acting now you can save yourself the future expenses associated with a non-prepared bike and eliminate any hassles when it is time to ride again. Also, we have some storage space still available. Your motorcycle or scooter can be kept safe and warm in our secure heated warehouse.

As for the service specials listed below, I think that the ability to turn back time and receive our labor rate from 10 years ago is an excellent opportunity. This allows us to offer you dramatic savings while helping us keep our technicians busy during the slowest six weeks of the year.

I want to wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year and hope that you have a wonderful riding season in 2009. If I can be of any service don’t hesitate to call me, Old Al, Service Department Manager at Great Bay Motorcycles, 603 964 4450.

Post Thanksgiving Storewide Sale November 29th

Join us on Saturday November 29th from 10am-4pm for a post Thanksgiving Day Sale! These new models are radical & represent the best & most advanced offerings yet.

1. The NEW Superbikes 1198 & 1198S models: http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/my2009/FamilyPage.jhtml?family=Superbike

Some Features: Engine size from the previous generation 1098R model. Raising the CC from 1099 to 1199CC's for all litre class Ducati Superbikes. Weight saving methods first used for the 848 are applied to it's big brother the 1198 & 1198S models. AND THE BIG ONE.....for the first time ever on production Ducatis - the Ducati Traction Control System is used in both the 1198S & the 1098R models!!! This is the most advanced traction control system available on any modern Sport Bike -- here's what Ducati has to say about it:

DUCATI TRACTION CONTROL
For the first time ever on a Ducati production motorcycle, a true competition-level traction control system for the road comes integrated into the 1198 S and 1098 R electronics as standard equipment. The Ducati Traction Control (DTC) system further underlines Ducati's technology flow from racing to production and demonstrates how solutions developed for the track can be applied to enhance safety on the road.

DTC uses the same software logic developed and used by Ducati Corse for their world championship winning MotoGP and World Superbike motorcycles and offers a choice of eight settings developed by their professional test riders and racers.

Accessible from the left-hand switchgear and displayed on the digital instrumentation, the system offers a choice of eight profiles. Each one has been programmed with a wheel-spin tolerance matched to progressive riding levels of skill graded from one to eight. While level eight administers a confidence-building, high level of interaction from the system by activating upon the slightest amount of wheel-spin, level one offers a much higher tolerance and so much less intervention for highly competent riders. When the level is selected and DTC activated, the level is displayed on the instrumentation.

When the profile that best suits the combination of road or track conditions and riding style has been selected and the DTC system activated, front and rear wheel sensors compare speed differential to sense when rear traction is being broken (wheel-spin). High speed software then makes instant electronic adjustment to the fuel injection, taking immediate control over power output so as to restore traction at the rear wheel. A warning light is displayed during DTC interaction. As soon as the system recognises the return of equal wheel speeds, it re-establishes normal power delivery. In this way, DTC provides a considerable increase in safety during mid-corner acceleration.

The DTC system is supplied as standard equipment on the 1198 S and 1098 R models.

2. Ducati Announces the Limited Edition 1098R Bayliss LE model! For many of us this is our favorite time to ride. Clean fresh air makes our machines run great and the colors of the foliage can make it hard to stay focused on the road.

Each year we hold a Fall Open House Party and Customer Appreciation Sale in October. Over the years we have had some great events, some were weather cursed, and others were spectacularly beautiful fall days. This year we thought it would be fun to try and do something a little different. We wanted to shift the focus of the event to having the attendees ride their motorcycles and motor scooters to the party with a major emphasis on riding.

So this year we have made some major changes:
We are dedicating the parking lot out front to bikes and scooters. There will be designated brand specific areas so you can park your Ducati with other Ducati enthusiasts, your Triumph with other Triumph riders and your scooter with other scooter enthusiast. There will be plenty of brand X parking available and limited auto/car parking. Please do your best to show up on your ride!
We have a rain date for this event which is Saturday, October 25th. This is to help keep the focus on showing up on two (or three) wheels if the weather on the 18th looks like rain.
We are having a true blow out sale. We have never done anything like this before. Instead of our traditional one size fits all discount for parts and accessories, we are having lots of specials and still offering the usual discounts on most items. That means it will be worth while to truly look around and see what is marked down and how much. We will have racks with some items discounted as much as 50%. This could be the time to pick up the helmet, jacket or gloves you have been holding out for.
Because we really want you to show up on two wheels, we knew we needed a way to make it convenient for you to take advantage of our huge sale. Our solution is as follows:
If you come by bike or scooter and need us to, we will ship your new items to your home or business at no charge.
Or take advantage of our Gear Exchange Program. Bring your old, tired, worn out or ill fitting gear that you wish to replace with you. Simply, if you are buying riding gear and leave your old stuff with us in exchange, we will give you an extra 5% off your purchase. It does not matter how old or worn out your gear is! We will then find a charitable home for the items that are still serviceable.
We will be having a specials table with all sorts of odd bargains. Check it out!
The barbecue will be free and this time it is on Great Bay alone. Enjoy some food and a drink on us!
Motorcycle and scooter keys holders will be eligible for raffle tickets. You need not be present to win, so if the UPS man shows up at your door with a package from Great Bay that you don’t expect, it is because you are a lucky winner.

So, please come and join us for our Rider Appreciation Day and Fall Open House Party, Saturday, October 18th from 10-4pm.

Ducati Hypermotard Storms the Coastal Town of Portsmouth.

Great Bay Motorcycles was fortunate enough to be able to share the Ducati Hypermotard Demo Truck with some of our best customers. This exclusive invite-only event went off without a hitch with over a dozen Hypers making the journey from Great Bay Motorcycles along the coastline to the Nubble Light-House in York, ME and then on to Portsmouth for some nightlife. We were lucky enough to get the last of the Sunlight at the Nubble - then it was off to Portsmouth for Dinner, which was at the Radici Restaurant. Discussion confirmed that the Hypermotard is pretty much universally accepted to be an awesome & wickedly fun motorcycle.

The Hypermotard is definately a bike that needs to be ridden to be appreciated. The first time I eased out on a clutch lever I was hooked forever. Thirty five years, countless motorcycles, and one award winning dealership later, I still love to throw my leg over almost anything with two wheels.

In my riding career I have had the opportunity to own and experience more motorcycles than I could ever keep track of. In some ways, like a junkie, I always chase the motorcycle high. So imagine my surprise when I find myself more enamored of my current bike than any other ever. How the heck is this possible?

The Ducati Hypermotard is a fabulous bike. The riding position is high and commanding. The bike handles like a razor blade and requires very little steering input. The brakes are strong Brembo units and the beefy suspension soaks up the bumps at low speeds and keeps you on track at high ones. The 17” front and rear wheels give you sport bike agility and cornering. The bike is simply one of the best packages ever assembled by Ducati for every man.

I believe everyone should try this bike. The Ducati Hypermotard will make you a better rider. You can see in traffic over and around cars easily. The bikes performance envelope is so vast that you operate the machine with huge amounts of reserve capability in every direction.

The 1100 c.c. dual spark motor is divine. Not super powerful, but easy to use and darn quick if you ask for it to be. Add one of the requisite Ducati performance exhaust options and the bike sounds like it should. Like a Ducati twin, and in my very biased opinion better than any other motorcycle engine, period. Nothing sounds like or feels like a Ducati.

Last season we had a Hypermotard S demo unit. I rode it every day that I could and basically forgot about the rest of the fleet here. Then at the Ducati dealer meeting in California I had the distinct pleasure of riding through the cork screw at Laguna Seca on a Hypermotard S model equipped with, among other things, the full Titanium Ducati Performance exhaust system. Wow. It was literally a dream come true, a simply awesome experience. This year our S demo was sold to a happy customer, and days later while longing for the bike I ordered myself a Hypermotard.

That bike now has the Termignoni 2 into 2 carbon silencer kit and sounds great with the baffles removed and is mellow enough to ride through the ‘hood without causing too much of a racket. Yet, anywhere above four grand it is sweet music, sweet sweet music. I installed a lovely Speedy Moto pressure plate and clutch cover with a spring kit, and the bike now has the distinct dry clutch sound that makes you immediately think of a race track bred Ducati. To complete the basic package, a carbon fibre rear mudguard helps keep the back end tidy, properly adorned with our skull and cross bones speedometer logo.

If I have to go anywhere I always try to make it so I can go by bike. If I can I send the family ahead in the station wagon, work most of the day on Saturday, and meet them later. With that in mind I ordered up Ducati’s tank cover and tank bag kit, and the optional front side panniers. Equipped with this super stylish luggage set up I dubbed my beloved Hyper “the water buffalo.” Check out the photos on our site. The bags become part of the “fairing,” and while cruising at 90 mph the bike is truly comfortable. The capacity of the bags is more than enough for a long weekend away, and that includes carrying a substantial rain suit. I do advise leaving the XD style dirt bike helmet at home for highway or high speed travel. It is fabulous for around town on the Hyper, but a bit hard on the neck at speed.

Speaking of dirt bikes, if you have ever ridden them and or love them to this day jumping on the Hypermotard is like putting on a well broken in pair of your boots or gloves. It just feels so right once you are in the saddle. Plus the big flat saddle allows you to move into the perfect position for your individual comfort.

Now those of you with a passion for American Twins or Teutonic tanks will be biased against this bike. You probably won’t like the tall stature, lack of a full faring, nimble handling, and smaller fuel capacity. That is okay, because this bike was not created for you. But this bike was created for everyone with a motorcyclist’s soul. This bike was created for people who enjoy FUN. This bike was created for people who use their heads and their hearts when riding. This bike was created for people passionate about the actual act of riding.

Ducati’s get under your skin, and create a motorcycle lust unlike any other bike. I know, I have the affliction. The Hypermotard inspires excitement unlike any other bike that I know. Am I excited about the Hypermotard? Yes, and kind of off the charts about the whole thing. With all of my deep involvement in motorcycling the Hypermotard has truly made me even happier to love bikes and love Ducati. The Hypermotard truly rocks!
Come test ride a Hypermotard at Great Bay Ducati. Also on sale is a higher specification
Bonneville SE, which takes the standard Bonneville and adds a two-tone colour
scheme, brushed alloy engine casings and additional instrumentation. The
Sixties-influenced Bonneville T100 remains in the line-up for 2009, with minor
detail changes and a new blue and white colour option. Hopefully the boys won't go hollywood on us!

"We carry Triumph and Ducati bikes, two of the biggest European brands," he said. "Up front we have the more modern line of Triumph: the Tiger, the Speed Triple, the Sprint ST, the new Rocket — they range from sport touring bikes, naked sport bikes, cruisers all the way through to the classics, like the Bonneville."
The Triumph has more of a heritage that comes with it, he said. Its classic line is brought back from the 1960s (the Bonneville), and from the '70s (the Scrambler and the Thruxton).
The Triumph Bonneville has the classic look. It's the James Dean look, it's just a fun bike to ride.
"The Ducati line is more geared towards the sport line," said Chidester. Over the past three years the Schwinn products have continually been improved and refined, and the 2008 models are the best yet from Schwinn. We all know that Schwinn is a legendary and venerable name in bicycle history. Once Schwinn decided to enter the scooter market you can be sure that they planned to do it in a big way.

We know that Schwinn has quickly become one of the largest scooter suppliers in the US. That means as a customer you can expect the high quality support of a major manufacturer, and that is evident in Schwinn’s two year factory warranty. Schwinn has chosen a dealer network based on established dealers selling high quality name brand powersports products, and we are pleased to be among them.

For 2008 the Schwinn product line has expanded to include powerful 150 c.c. models. In most states these require a motorcycle license and registration, but they offer excellent acceleration and top speeds. Schwinn continues to build high quality 50 c.c. scooters like the Laguna, Newport and Hope models. These scooters do not require a motorcycle operator’s license in most states, including New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont. This means that with your auto drivers license you can legally operate these fun and stylish scooters. They require a lower cost moped registration and generally do not require insurance. These have been extremely popular because of their ease of use and convenience.

Riding a Schwinn scooter is fun, and it is also super economical. The 50 c.c. units are capable of achieving over 100 mpg. Even if you expect to get an average of 80 mpg you can imagine the fuel you will save while having fun. Compare that to any car and you can see how quickly you will save fuel. Saving fuel means saving money, and it also means that you are helping our environment by leaving a smaller transportation associated carbon footprint compared to driving your car. You can have a fun summer, avoid traffic and congestion, save money on fuel expenses, and help our environment all while riding a Schwinn scooter.

We encourage you to check out the Schwinn products at Great Bay. We are located on Route 1 in North Hampton, on the Seacoast of New Hampshire just a couple of miles from the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and scenic route 1A. This is a perfect region to ride scooters and if you have ever considered owning one please stop in and let us show you how much fun having your own Schwinn scooter will be. Have fun, save fuel, avoid parking congestion, and go green this summer with your new Schwinn scooter.

9th Annual Winter Sucks SALE!!!

Join Great Bay MC's on March 8th, 2008 from 10-4pm as we celebrate our 9th Annual Winter Sucks Sale! The Triumph Premier Group has been introduced for 2008 as way to acknowledge and reward dealers that have shown a commitment to the Brand, the market, and most importantly to the Triumph customer.

Triumph Motorcycles identified the most important traits of the best dealers and used them as way to evaluate all of its dealers. The Premier Group has three distinct and distinguished categories with the top level being the platinum level. Approximately 20 dealerships are in each of the categories.

“All of us at Great Bay Motorcycles are proud to be a Platinum member of the Triumph Premier Group,” stated Don Jeka, president. Adding “We are pleased that Triumph has chosen to recognize its outstanding dealers, and happy to be included among them.”

“We do our best to give all customers a great Triumph motorcycle ownership experience, and are happy to share our love of these products, after all, we are enthusiasts too.”

This year dealership employees Jeka, Commerce Manager Chris Joyce, and Parts Manager Kaleb Peterson, all attended Triumph’s dealer conference. They enjoyed festivities with fellow dealers including a raucous gaming night. They also were able to ride and experience two fabulous new Triumph’s, the Rocket III Touring, and the class breaking Street Triple.

“Both bikes blew are minds. The new Rocket III Tourer is smooth and awesome with great comfort and a great look. The Street Triple is fast, balanced, powerful, and definitely all Triumph sport bike. The 675 triple motor makes it one of the best naked bikes ever!” Don Jeka, excitedly commented.

Great Bay Motorcycles, Inc. is a New Hampshire Seacoast located, award winning Triumph Motorcycle Dealership having been recognized with awards in service, sales, and clothing and accessories by Triumph. Great Bay Motorcycles is currently embarking on its 10th year as one of top European motorcycle dealerships.

Ducati "Most Impoved Dealer" Award.

The 2008 Ducati Motorcycles North America Dealer Conference was held late last year in Monterey, California, home of the legendary Laguna Seca race track. At the conference Ducati unveiled two new superbikes, the super hot middleweight 848 and the astonishing 1098R. Both were met with howls of enthusiasm from the dealers in attendance.

Ducati takes them time to both provide a detailed overview of their market and their performance in it down to a regional level. They also then recognize individual dealership for their outstanding performance within their region.

This year Great Bay Motorcycles, a Ducat dealership on the New Hampshire Seacoast, was awarded the “2007 Most Improved Dealership” award for the New England Region.

“This past year we made significant strides with Ducati. We completely renovated our motorcycle showroom and created a black and red themed display area for Ducati Performance products, and Ducati clothing and apparel,” stated Great Bay president, Don Jeka.

“We offer a large demo fleet of Ducati’s and I think this helps us share the Ducati experience with more riders on different models, and has helped lead to our consistent sales growth”

“We also are enjoying the Ducati brand so much; I think it helps breed enthusiasm among our customers. I sometimes feel that if Ducati doesn’t get you excited, nothing in motorcycling will!” he added.

This is the second time in the last two years that Great Bay was given this award by Ducati. Great Bay continues to grow each year as a Ducati dealership in all aspects of the business. This past year 1098 and Sport Classics, especially GT 1000’s, proved to be customer favorites along with the perennial Monster family.

“Towards the end of the year the Hypermotard became a top seller, and all you have to do is ride to see why,” Don Jeka enthused. “It is the most fun motorcycle I have ever ridden, period, and I love bikes. The only way to describe it in one word is to say exciting.”

Following two days of meetings in an historic old theatre in downtown Monterey, CA the dealers headed over for a track day at the legendary Laguna Seca racetrack home of the Moto GP in the US.

“I can’t even describe the thrill of heading down the corkscrew for the first time on a 1098S, it was an experience I will never forget,” commented Jeka. “It is fantastic how year after year Ducati gets its dealers out on the newest bikes on some fabulous piece of pavement. Winter Storage: Unfortunately it won't be long until you have to decide what to do with your motorcycle. Even if you have a garage, storage space in the Winter can be tight. We still have plenty of space and are still accepting motorcycles daily. Our facility is heated, and secure. So leave your bike with us and bring out your Skis!!!

2. Winterization: Motorcycles work hard, they deserve to be taken care of. Even if you are not at a service interval it is a good idea to have your motorcycle checked over. Our Winterization service is the perfect way to say, "thanks for a great season to your motorcycle". The full-service includes:
1.Oil and filter change
· Using fully synthetic top-quality oil – filled to factory levels
· Factory specified Oil filter and oil drain crush washer(s)
2. Final-drive check and adjust
· Adjusting the chain into factory specifications.
· Checking the wear of the chain and Sprockets, as well as an application of chain wax
3. General systems check (lights, electrics, cables, fluids, etc)
4. The addition of fuel stabilizer
· Modern fuels include many chemicals (inc ethanol) which can degrade the fuel over time. To ensure that your fuel system stays "happy" and works properly it is a good idea to use a stabilizer to help keep your fuel fresh
5. A thorough cleaning
· Including an application of S100's corrosion protectant -- a product designed to keep most common corrosion at bay)
6. Installation of a Battery Tender
· A small invest that over the years have found to extend the life of the battery.
This service is a considerable value and saves you over $70!!! Even though the cost of oil and materials has risen, we kept the price at: $199.99!!! Treat your motorcycle right, have a Factory-trained tech look over your machine once a season. You motorcycle will last longer, work better, and give you greater pride of ownership.

Ducati Sport Classic Open House Event!!

Ducati Sport Classic Demo Event

September 1st – 8th

The new Ducati Sport Classic models have proven to be an awesome success. They offer unique, classic style combined with modern performance. Each model has visual attributes that can stir deep motorcycle emotions, and the technical packages and components yield refined, pure Ducati handling and performance.

Ducati is making an initiative, The Ducati Sport Classic Demo Event, to get the word out about these truly awesome motorcycles. We will be hosting the event at Great Bay Ducati during the first week of September, just when the best riding of the year begins. You can expect long demo rides all week, giveaways, refreshments, and food courtesy of Great Bay and Ducati USA. The week should prove to be fun and exciting for all Ducati enthusiasts.

At Great Bay we also feel, why wait? We will offer you a demo ride on a Sport Classic model today, and if you love it as much as we think you will, you could be riding your own weeks before the event. We promise to give you a great deal, and a perfectly set up motorcycle, that we know you will love.

Just a bit about the Sport Classics.

We have had a GT in our demo fleet and it has become a beloved motorcycle. It is smooth, comfortable and a fine two up machine. Last year, after a romantic ride up the coast with his wife, our dealer principal came in to the shop the next day and ordered one. He felt that it was the perfect two up bike for anything less than full on distance touring. The seat is super comfortable, the handlebars provide a nice neutral body position and the foot controls place the riders feet directly below.

From this comfortable perch controlling the GT is effortless. The bike is equipped with the absolutely dreamy 1000 DS motor. If you have not had the pleasure of riding a Ducati equipped with one of these power plants, you are missing out on experiencing one of the best motorcycle engines ever created. Yes, that sounds like an over statement, but if you do a little homework, you will find that every motorcycle magazine that has tested any of the following motorcycles equipped with the 1000 DS engine has praised the motor with heaping superlatives. From the venerable, do it all Multistrada to the quintessential naked sport bike the Monster S2R 1000 and onto the entire range of Sport Classic models. Why? Because Ducati got it right.

This powerplant and its descendent, the 1100 (now in the Hypermotard and Multistrada), offer all the attributes of a perfect motorcycle engine. It is smooth and balanced, and offers massive torque across the rev range. It pulls like a tractor and hits hard if you want it to, but if driven mildly feels like the most controllable and tractable motor ever made. What an awesome motor!

In 2006 the Sport Classic range was one of our top sellers. Sure, we sold many GT’s, but we also sold a bunch of the Sport 1000’s. This bike is just about as cool as any motorcycle can look, and with the revised handlebars and dual seating for some of the Sport 1000 models this year, you can choose the bike that is perfect for your riding style. 2007 also saw the introduction of the Sport 1000 mono-posto LE, a limited edition run of 100 units in traditional black and gold straight out of the seventies. We have number 97 in stock and ready to go home with a lucky new owner.

Following on the heels of the fabulous Paul Smart was the introduction of the Sport 1000S model. It carries forward the fantastic fairing, now in red with a center white stripe and black pin striping. The bike is now a Biposto and dual shock equipped, so taking along a passenger is easy of you want it to be. We can’t tell you exactly why, but this complete package seems to be much, much greater than the sum of its parts. Simply, the models we have ridden and sold are among the sweetest Ducatis ever.

So, across the Sport Classic range you get great Brembo brakes with full floating rotors, six speed transmissions, classic spoked wheels, the awesome 1000 cc dual spark, fuel injected motor, and a look and feel that could only be Ducati.

Finally, if you tend to like your bike to be more individualized you can check out the Ducati performance offerings for each model. These special accessories will allow you to turn any Sport Classic model into the bike you want it to be. From luggage and touring accessories to Termigoni performance exhaust kits, Ducati offers it all. If you haven’t heard a Ducati performance pipe equipped Sport Classic model, stop by and check one out. Can you say intoxicating? Whoa.

We encourage you to come by Great Bay Ducati and ride a Sport Classic. It might just be the perfect motorcycle for you too.

Hope to see you soon.

Buy Local, Stay Local. Come by and see why we WANT to be your Dealer!!!

GREAT BAY MOTORCYCLES BEST PRICE POLICY At Great Bay Motorcycles/ Vespa North Hampton we strive to offer all of our customers the best possible motorcycle or motor scooter experience. We offer excellent products at fair prices and do everything within our power to provide our customers with the service that will guarantee a complete quality experience when buying from us. We are not a “cut corner” dealership that offers products intended to attract customers simply on price. We sell and service Ducati and Triumph motorcycles and Vespa and Piaggio motor scooters. These are without question some of the best designed and engineered products in the industry. From a value to price point perspective these products offer outstanding components, fit and finish, and stand apart as unique within the industry. We stock our workshop with the tools, analyzers and equipment to ensure that we can take great care of these fine machines. Our technicians have the training and experience required to do a great job. The discount shops will remove a machine from the crate, assemble it poorly (when required) put a splash of gas in the tank and hand it over to a customer with little regard for what is right and what is not. Precision machines do not deserve that kind of treatment, and will never receive any level of disrespect at Great Bay. We follow exactly the manufacturer’s recommendations for setup. In each case the machines we sell have made their way on a container ship across an ocean, and while we are very confident in the manufacturing quality of these machines, we also recognize that it is incumbent on us, as your dealer, to thoroughly set up and check out every machine that we sell. Simply, sometimes things get by the manufacturer on the assembly line, and sometimes things change during shipping. It is up to us to identify and address any issues during set up. This is called the PDI (pre delivery set up and inspection), and can be the single biggest factor a dealership can do to be certain that it is handing over to it’s new owner a machine that is safe and reliable. As part of this, we torque all required fasteners and hardware. We add required fluids, adjust tire pressure, charge batteries, test electrical systems, perform thorough safety inspections, flush tanks and add fuel. Machines are then started and evaluated for running performance. Finally, an experienced technician takes the machine for a road test. If everything checks out the machine is then given a bath and a detail job. The time required to do this varies, and every machine receives all the time required to be sure it lives up to our standards. This makes it especially painful for us when a local customer comes in for a break-in service on a new bike or scooter from one of our brands that they purchased somewhere else in an effort to save money. Often, once the bike is in our workshop, we are amazed at the lack of attention the bike received during PDI from the discount shop, and wonder how they could have delivered it to a customer in such a fashion. We then feel obligated to set the machine up to the manufacturer’s standards, and do so without making the customer feel bad about his decision to buy one of the brands that we love and honor. So, we have a simple request for you, our potential customer. If you are in our area, and you want to purchase a product that we sell, please let us know if you are considering buying it at a less convenient location based on a cheaper price. Communication is the key. With this knowledge we will do everything possible to create a deal that will make you happy. Often times discounts on parts and installation, help with extended warranty purchases or service plans can create a much better deal for you, because these are all things that we can offer that enhance the motorcycle purchase experience. In other cases, we don’t want you to drive an hour or more for a small savings. Please communicate with us, we want to work with you. We are a locally owned and operated business. Our employees and their families live locally and spend their earnings locally. Our business has and does participate with a variety of local charitable and non profit organizations each year in our area, because we recognize that we are members of a community. As members of this community, we also must have customers that recognize our value and want our business to survive and thrive. We spend our money locally, and want you to as well. Also, if we are not the most convenient shop for you, but you would like to do business with us please let us know. We have many customers that travel extended distances to purchase bikes from us, or come to us for our service. We appreciate each and every one of them. So if we are not the closest, but you think we can help you, talk to us. We will do everything in our power to help get you on the scooter or motorcycle of you dreams. We will consider and accept all legitimate offers on our products, and have no intention of being beaten solely on price. Give us a call or stop by. In summary, we will match or beat any legitimate (verifiable or documented) price on the products we sell. Period. Why shop anywhere else?

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://greatbaymotorcycles.blogspot.com/2007/08/buy-local-stay-local-come-by-and-see.html' title='Buy Local, Stay Local. We are happy to report that we have consistently grown every year as a dealer, and are ranked among the largest Ducati dealers in the northeast. In 2005, at Ducati’s U.S. national dealer conference in Chicago we were awarded the Gold Achievement Award for Most Improved dealer. What this meant was that we had the second largest growth over the previous year of any dealer in the United States, and we had the largest growth in the entire northeast region. Great Bay Ducati embraced these bikes with the same enthusiasm that helped us become one of the nation’s premiere Triumph dealerships just three years earlier. Great Bay Ducati, a key part of Great Bay Motorcycles, is now the oldest Ducati franchise in New Hampshire that has not had a change of ownership and management. We are also proud to report that Great Bay is a five time Dealernews Top 100 winner. This award is given each year to 100 power sports dealers in the United States out of approximately 10,000. Dealers are evaluated in a variety ways including marketing, promotions, charitable involvement, showroom displays, advertising, and merchandising. It has been nice to know that we are considered one of the best at what we do. At Great Bay Ducati we are stocked to service the needs of Ducatisi (Ducati enthusiasts) and those who would like to become a member of this exclusive family. Ducati is about passion. Ducati is about motorcycling as sport. Ducati is about riding. A Ducati with a set of Ducati Performance Termignoni mufflers installed is one of the finest sounding motors in the world. From the basic 695 all the way through to the class leading 1098, all Ducati’s have character and heritage that you can see, hear and feel. Ducati motorcycles are bikes for riders. While it is a certainty that Ducati’s excel on the racetrack and have the best winning record in World Super Bike, most Ducati’s are ridden on the street. At Great Bay Ducati, most of our customers use their Ducati’s on the street, most of the time. We have the knowledge, skills, inventory and service equipment, to provide our customers with a great Ducati street riding experience. Recently, with so many track days being offered a NHIS, we have heard some riders say that they now only will ride at track days. Our perspective is “wow, what a shame.” Track days cost $200 plus, and are held on weekdays. How many weekdays can you take off for a track days each summer? Sure track days are fun, and they do help make you a better street rider, but if you are not a racer, street riding is what motorcycling is about. Street riding is riding your Ducati on roads. It is going on short hops, running errands, and taking day trips. It is enjoying riding with your passenger, and being outside in the elements on your Ducati. It is becoming one with your machine and the ride, and clearing away all of the mental stuff we have to deal with. These are some of the unique joys of street riding. At Great Bay Ducati we want to provide you with a great Ducati street riding experience. Ducati’s come equipped from the factory with the finest design and componentry available. All Ducatis are fuel injected, all Ducatis have 6 speed transmissions, all Ducatis have class leading Brembo brakes and stainless steel braided brake lines, all Ducatis have stout upside down front suspensions, all Ducatis have the unique steel trellis frame, and all Ducatis possess the signature L twin engine. With offerings like these straight out of the crate, you can be sure you are riding one of the finest street bikes available each time you swing a leg over your Ducati to head out for a ride. Ducati’s model families start at the top with the Superbikes. These are among the finest production bikes in the world, true sportbike thoroughbreds like the all new 1098. Beautiful and exotic, these are bikes for riders who want the highest degree of sport performance. For riders wanting a more basic, air-cooled powerplant in a true sport bike, Ducati offers the Supersport family. These bikes offer superior handling in the Ducati sport bike tradition with low weight and a low price point making them an ideal first sport bike. Ducati then has a family tree that branches into touring models like the ST3 which comes standard with color matched, lockable, weather proof luggage, a full fairing and a liquid colled engine. The Multistradas (which we love) are the all road, swiss army knife of the Ducati family. The Multistradas have a commanding riding position and are equally capable of sport and touring riding, just add the optional luggage. When speaking of Ducatis the name Monster is never far from a conversation, and Ducati has the most comprehensive line up of Monsters, the original, iconic naked street bike, ever. From the all new 695 to the MS2R and MS2R 1000 and onto the show stopping, superbike powered MS4rs there can be a Monster for every level of experience. All Monsters handle easily and are comfortable for all day fun. Last year Ducati introduced a range of Sport Classic models. These bike give a huge visual nod toward traditional Ducatis of the past, yet they employee the same modern components and technology as the rest of the range. So you can have a comfortable retro looking bike like the GT1000, and still have brakes and engine performance worthy of a modern Ducati. If you don’t want to be exposed to a positive pro helmet opinion, please stop reading this, now. Also, please note this is not a pro helmet law piece. We believe in freedom of choice.
New Hampshire is a freedom of choice state. We love New Hampshire! Live Free or Die.
Disclosure: At Great Bay Motorcycles we sell and wear helmets. Most of us wear top of the line Arai helmets and we promote them in the shop, because we believe that the investment in a quality helmet is worth the entry fee.
The Great Bay position on helmets is, wear one.
Wear one every time you ride.
We are helmet advocates. We are helmet advocates through experience.
Most of us have heard the many reasons why helmets are dangerous and unnecessary. For example:
“Helmets are for people who are planning on crashing”
“Helmets weigh too much and cause fatigue”
“Helmets eliminate your ability to hear what is around you”
“Helmets block your peripheral vision”
“Helmets are too hot to wear most of the year”
Some people will embrace these tidbits of wisdom as a reason for not wearing a helmet when riding. That is fine.
But……really, what makes people go lidless? There are many reasons for sure, comfort among them, but some people don’t wear a helmet because it doesn’t look cool. No one looks good in a helmet, period. No one looks cool with a helmet on. No bad ass dudes will wave to you on your cruiser if you have a helmet on. Worse still, people might not recognize you.
Here is some basic reality. As motorcyclists we take risks. We can minimize the risks associated with riding in a variety of ways, and one way is to wear a lid when riding.
Have you ever watched a motorcycle race and seen a crash? If you haven’t, let’s review what happens most often. The rider either low sides or gets spit off the bike in a high side crash (ouch). Most will slide off of the track and get up and run over to their bikes to attempt to resume the race. Why are they able to do this? Because of protective gear, and a critical component of their protective gear is the helmet.
Picture yourself sitting on an old bicycle in a parking lot. Now imagine that you fall over while sitting still, and when you fall you can’t put your hands out to break (probably literally) your fall. The pavement is a pretty hard surface, and falling without any forward motion will sometimes still scrape you up.
Next imagine riding that bike at 10mph and falling over, again, unable to use your hands or arms to alter your crash. This time you would probably have some significant abrasions on your head and face, and maybe even a concussion. This attempt to illustrate the high stakes of a simple fall is drawn at far below the speeds at which we ride.
Several years ago a Great Bay employee with a significant amount of riding experience crashed a Sprint S/T. It was an operator error accident. Brand new bike, brand new tires, cold pavement, too much throttle, and one high side crash later, the employee walked back to the shop. Why didn’t the face plant send him to the hospital or the grave? Smacking a nose and chin on the pavement at 25 mph could be fatal or at the very least disfiguring, but because he had a helmet on his head was unscathed. The helmet saved him. Period.
As riding enthusiasts and ambassadors of the sport, we want all riders to have safe riding experiences. We feel it is our basic duty to promote safe riding, and therefore, we promote wearing helmets.
We sell a variety of helmets including KBC, ZR1, and Arai. We have found the Arai helmets to be worth the cost because of superior features when compared to all other helmets. With Arai helmets you get optically correct visors, fabulous venting, super comfortable liners, and the ability to custom fit the helmet for your head shape. If you are interested in feeling the difference, stop in and we can help fit you into the right helmet.
Once you begin to wear a properly fit, quality helmet you will appreciate all that they offer. They are aerodynamic and much quieter than riding without one, especially at speed. In the cool weather they help keep your head warm, and in the warm weather they have venting to pass cool air over your head and draw out any perspiration. They protect your skin from the rigors of the road, and the face shields keep bugs and debris from implanting itself in your face. These attributes are, of course, minor when compared to the ultimate benefit of a helmet, protecting your valuable head.
If you are considering a new helmet please stop in and let us custom fit one for you. We are happy to help you in anyway we can, and we want every ride that you take to be safe and successful.
